Ukrzaliznytsia is a body of public railway transport management that provides centralized management of the process of transportation in domestic and interstate connections and regulates the production and economic activities of railways.

The sphere of Ukrzaliznytsia includes Donetsk, Lviv, Odessa, South, South-Western and Dnieper railways, as well as other enterprises and organizations of a single production and technological complex that provide transportation of goods and passengers.

Railway transport of Ukraine is a leading industry in the road transport complex of the country, which provides 82% of freight and almost 50% of passenger traffic by all modes of transport.

The operational network of Ukrainian railways is almost 22 thousand km, of which 45% is electrified. In terms of freight traffic, Ukraine's railways rank fourth on the Eurasian continent, second only to the railways of China, Russia and India. The load capacity of Ukrainian railways (annual volume of traffic per 1 km) is 3-5 times higher than the corresponding figure of developed European countries.

There are 1492 railway stations, 55 locomotive and 48 car depots, 110 track distances, 69 signaling and communication distances, 44 power supply distances.

There are 3 railway transport corridors on the territory of Ukraine - № 3,5,9. The Ukrainian ports of Ishmael and Reni interact with the Pan-European Corridor G7, which runs along the Danube. Today, the length of the national network of railway transit corridors in Ukraine is 3162 km. These are mainly two-track electrified, autoblocked highways, characterized by a high level of use of technical means. In addition, transportation on the TRACECA ITC (Europe - Caucasus - Asia) is developing. Ukrzaliznytsia is one of the founders of the Railway Transport Council of the Commonwealth member states.
